Nguyen Dan manufactured fighting knife that is attributed to a Special Forces veteran. The knife measures 9 1/2 inches overall with a 5 1/2 inch unmarked blade. The piece was hand made and has some damage to the wooden handle that can be seen in the pictures. I believe this was done before the blacksmith decided to used the wood for handles as the stain is matching through-out. The piece comes with the matching sheath that shows its age, is pliable and the two retaining straps are intact.
The veteran served two tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1962 with 5th Special Forces Group (ABN) as the Executive Officer at Dak Pek. He returned in 1967 with Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MAC V SOG) where he served as the Executive Officer of Forward Operational Base #2 (FOB#2, Kontum) and Forward Operational Base #1 (FOB#1, Phu Bia). He later was the Commanding Officer of Forward Operational Base #3 (FOB#3, Khe Sanh).
The knife will come with a Letter of Authenticity from specialforceshistory as artifact number APK-226, and a reprinted picture of the veteran during his tour.
